Q: Is it actually bad to keep condoms in your wallet, purse, or pants?

A: Yes. Heat and friction are both terrible for latex. A wallet, jammed in your hip pocket and ground under your butt cheek all day long, has plenty of both. Heat can cause the latex to become brittle, and friction can tear the condom package, allowing the latex and any lubricant to dry out, or can cause tiny tears or weak spots within the package. If you're going on a date or are off for a long weekend somewhere, it is much safer to store a condom or two in a condom carrier (condom case). You don't want to chuck them someplace like the glove box of your car which will expose them to extreme temperatures. Always store condoms away from direct sunlight or high temps.
